It was Uno who pointed out that the ground for the Japanese reception of Deleuze was laid by the Bergson scholar Hideo Kobayashi.

In a letter to his Japanese translator, Kuniichi Uno, about “How Félix and I Worked Together,” Deleuze notes that, in contradistinction to Guattari’s bustle of psychiatric and political group activism, he is “more like a hill: I don’t move much, I can’t manage two projects at once, I obsess over my ideas, and the few movements I do have are internal.”

Kuniichi Uno is the Japanese translator of Gilles Deleuze and Samuel Beckett. He directed the translation of Deleuze and Felix Guattari’s influential Thousand Plateaux as well as Antonin Artaud’s radio-play To Have Done With the Judgment of God. Uno’s conference, in French, at the Agora de la Danse, investigates time, catastrophe and the body in the work of Min Tanaka, Antonin Artaud, and Uno’s teacher Tatsumi Hijikata.
